One of the greatest mistakes we've made is assuming what the need of any area might be rather than observing and asking leadership in the area what the need might be. We might not always agree on the answer, but our place as servants in the city is to recognize that while we have the right answer in Jesus, we don't always have the right strategy to impact a community. We want to be a blessing and be humble in our service. One of the best decisions we ever made was partnering with local women who were already, in whatever way they could and with the few remaining coins in their pockets, changing the lives of children in Phokeng. We've come along side to be a blessing and support, but never believe for a moment that Martha and Agnes aren't the driving force and poured out sacrifice for the children's centres we oversee.
Today Derek had a meeting with the Department of Social Development to discuss the possibility of starting an Empowerment Centre and Place of Safety for abused women and those rescued out of human trafficking. We've been having some discussions about this for some time and trying to see how we can make a difference here for the women who want to get of the streets, but have no where to go.
Today's discussion went amazing well and Derek is really excited about the possibilities ahead, however the meeting went a totally different direction than he thought it would. A direction, that if navigated well, would ultimately benefit far more people than we planned and would include the women we see walking our streets. A direction that could have deep impact on our society here!
So, we've got a lot of praying to do and need God's clear vision ahead. Jesus is the answer. He is our hope, He is our deliverer, He is our truth. Pray we keep Him at the centre and allow God's wisdom to guide every decision regarding this project. Thanks!
