Bald Heads, Prayer, and a Miracle

We just had to share this picture of Derek's bald head and tell you of a recent miracle in our lives. There is a young man in our church who is 15 years old and suffers from a disease that causes all the hair on his body to fall out. This November the stress and trauma took a huge toll on him as he finally lost his eyebrows and eyelashes. By the end of November he had become deeply depressed and was put on medication to help him cope emotionally. On January 14, Derek, Lincoln (another missionary and good friend), and Goddard (the boy's father) all shaved their heads. For 21 days the kept their heads and faces cleanly shaven. Derek firmly believed that by shaving their heads they would better be able to pray for the boy's struggle and that when their own hair began to grow back we would see God perform a miracle in the young man's life. The first time Derek left the house (just after we took this picture) he actually made himself sick with the anxiety of not having his hair. On the 22nd day the young man and his family began to see blond, baby-like hair appear on the boy's head and neck. A few days later they took him to the doctor who said he has never seen anything like it. What has happened in this young man's life is a miracle. Now, the hair is darkening in color and is growing all over the young man's body and his eyebrows are back! It is still soft and baby-like, but it is growing. His mother told me this week she has to tell him not to touch it because he wants to all the time. Everytime he does, he knows God did this for him. We are praising God for the miracle in this young man's life. He is a living testimony to God's great compassion and love for His children.

Derek, continue to keep your head shaved. It looks better than the hair and much more of a "in-charge" look.

It is also a reminder of answered prayer in your life.

I like the no hair look. Some people can pull it off and I think Derek has the look!
