This furniture has been around the block a few times. I love watching things exchange hands and be thoroughly enjoyed again and again. Once upon a time the couches in this trailer belonged to our dear friends Jenny and Lincoln. I was one of the first guest to sit on them because I had invited myself to dinner while Derek was on outreach. They loved me so they let me crash and Jenny was pretty excited about their new couches and their house, which during our first 5 years in South Africa was home to David and Janis's, also dear friends. The old house was starting to feel like a home again with all the new things and lots of kids running around. I'll never forget that day because on the way back to our home, Kyla who was a tiny tot at the time, got ahold of a carton of eggs I had foolishly left in arms reach. I was hit by more than one before I realised she was throwing them around the car and we were on the highway!
Jenny and Lincoln enjoyed these couches for a few years and then were called back to the US for another assignment. After we all cried our eyes out that Jenny and Lincoln were leaving, my dear friends Matt and Angela gladly took these couches off their hands. They and their 5 beautiful boys proceeded to love these couches as well. I've had lots of couch and coffee time on these bad boys over the years. This year we said goodbye to Matt and Angela who after 8 years in Africa, have been called back to the US for another assignment. After another long round of crying our eyes out, these well loved beauties have been purchased yet again by dear friends, Chris and Amy. But this time, they won't be staying in a mission home. This trailer is headed to Agnes' House and everything in it will be providing comfort for the amazing children she has in her care. The couches will also join David and Janis's dining room table that we lingered over for many a meal, and so much else that I've lost track of where it all came from.
God's provision never ceases to amaze me. Not just in the stuff He provides, but in the family he chooses to provide it through. These couches speak to me of provision for the children in our programs, but for me they also represent years of sisters in the Lord, family on the mission field, whom God has planted in our path who have blessed by life more than words could ever express. I need to make a special visit to Mama Agnes this week just to have long coffee chat on these couches again.
