Roger and Mary

Beth Moore Bible studies are some of my favorite ways to dig into Scripture. In addition to some truly incredibly teaching I think it is the Southern, Baptist, Houstonian, and Texas A&M connections that make me feel at home with the author and bring quite a bit of my roots over to meet me in South Africa.

The beautiful couple you see in this picture are Roger and Mary Kunene. We had the privilege of meeting and mentoring Roger during our first year of marriage in Swaziland. Over the years we have stayed in touch and in 2008 he and his fiancĂ©, Mary, attended our DTS program here at YWAM Rustenburg. Since that time we have all tried to figure out a way to get them back, but know that God is using them in incredible ways in Swaziland. We hope in the Lord’s timing there will come a day when we can all work together again.

That brings me back to Beth Moore. During my time in the US, a very generous member of Waller Baptist Church shared with me her video, audio, and leader guide for one of the Beth Moore studies. My Bible study here had just completed it and we knew that it would be handy to have around. A few weeks ago Roger and Mary came to visit for a few days and she shared that it was one of the studies she was hoping to share with the women in her study group so she packed it all up and took it back to Swaziland. I know my friend at Waller Baptist would be thrilled by this. So thank you my friend for sharing this material with me and thank you Beth Moore for writing it in the first place!

Our hope as missionaries is ultimately to share Christ and help people to grow in their faith and understanding of God. Our relationship with Roger and Mary is one area where we feel incredible joy and privilege firstly that we know them, secondly that we have been able to invest in their lives and marriage, and lastly that we get to see how God is using them to bless others!
