It's really cold!!! I'm working at home today on Bible study prep, account admin, and planning for an upcoming women's event and I am unbelievably grateful for the hot water bottle sitting in my lap because I'm sure it's the only thing that's keeping my fingers from freezing as I type. And Derek's just come home to work because the office was too cold.
Winter has finally arrived in Rustenburg! With it comes real hardship for the kids in Phokeng. I'm complaining about our house, but at least here I can run a kettle and fill up this water bottle or we can plug in a small heater and take it from room to room. The kids in Phokeng are not so fortunate. Most woke to a chill this morning that has yet to go away. They'll run and play this afternoon to warm up and many will have outdoor fires this evening to keep warm, but winter is always a hard time. I'm praying this winter will be different. I'm praying for warm coats to wear and hot soups to eat. I'm praying for blankets to warm them at night and most especially the love of Jesus to warm their hearts.
Poverty is not the end of the world. I'm sure that sounds incredibly harsh and please don't take it for lack of concern for the children. But who ever said that happiness is only found in name brand clothing and big houses. If they are warm, I don't mind that they live in shacks. If their bellies are full, I don't mind that their food is simple. If there is love in their homes and joy in their families I am thrilled! "Jesus these children are Yours. Your love and concern for them knows no bounds. I am so afraid we are not teaching them enough. I am so afraid we will focus on the temporal things and somehow they will miss experiencing You while being surrounded by all You do for them. Today in the cold, today with Martha and Agnes, today in whatever way You decide - please reveal Yourself to them. Give them eyes to see You. We love You. Amen."
