This note is from one of the women in my Bible study to the rest of our Bible study group:
I don't know where to start. At 5:14pm Gladys (my domestic worker) phoned me. I missed the call. I phoned her back at 5:50pm. She was hysterical and it took a couple of minutes for me to understand her. It was her 6 mnth old baby's first day at creche. She arrived there at 4:15pm to fetch him. The caregivers were watching tv. She asked how her boy was and where he was. They said he cried most of the day and he was in another room. She found him in a totally separate room, seperate from the other children and the caregivers. He was on a mattress and he was lying face down and covered from head to toe with a blanket Gladys didn't recognise. She picked him up and he wasn't breathing and had no heart beat. She went to the Phokeng Clinic and he was declared dead. The police arrived. Some investigation was done. It seems the caregivers left him in this room and he was eventually too tired to lift his head up so suffocated BUT it also looks like his head was pushed into the mattress. Please pray for immeasurable comfort for Gladys. I can't even begin to imagine her horror. The boys and I are very upset for our friend. Please pray for my boys. This is the second time they have experienced death in 18 mnths and we have discussed it. Please pray that their hearts are protected. Please pray for wisdom and strength when I see Gladys tomorrow. This is so horrific.
Please pray for Gladys and Vanessa and her boys. The police have determined to call in negligence for now saying that a criminal case will take too long to go to trial.
