8 Days in Kenya

First, let me say that it has not escaped our attention that I, a missionary, recently went on my first missions trip in 12 years! Hopefully I'll be able to articulate how that makes sense in my head. When I heard that my friend Julie and a small team from The Village Church were traveling to Kenya to plant the seeds of their Steps Recovery Program I asked if it was possible for me to join. They graciously said yes and for the next few weeks I was able to connect for a few Skype calls to hear their voices and their hearts. My motivation in going was to receive the training myself and for time with Julie and the rest of the team to ask questions and seek counsel on how to implement this program into our ministry life in South Africa. I knew I was going to be bringing a treasure back to my city, but I had no idea of the rest of the experience God had in mind for me.

I've had a few days to readjust to life in South Africa and I think I can finally express a few emotions about this trip. First, I am beyond grateful. Grateful to have been included so warmly by this beautiful team and grateful for all that I saw happen in the 8 short days we were in Kenya. I've been reminded of the power of our testimony as a follower of Christ. Reminded of the simple and profound ministry the name of Jesus and his work of redemption in our individuals lives can bring to someone else.   I've been reminded of and humbled by the incredible privilege it is to step into a foreign culture and share my faith.  I've been encouraged by the Kenyan couple leading this precious church family in Maai Mahui and challenged in more ways than I can count at this moment. And I have been blessed by a people who in the worlds' eyes have nothing, and yet through their dependence on God and their faith in Him have so much to offer the world.  And I am excited!! God is so amazing and His work in our lives is never ceasing. I have a lot to say about these 8 days and hope you'll enjoy hearing about them!

Father God I want to lift up to you Isaac, Esther, Peter, Agnes, Joseph, Tim, and Sam as they remain in Maai Mahui to serve the precious family of Rift Valley Fellowship. Lord, you know this is a tough ministry but your love overshadows every difficulty. Thank you for the powerful testimony of these individuals. We delight in their devotion to you!  We delight in their willingness to be poured out on this church. Father I pray you would give them strength, wisdom, love, and grace for the work they are doing today. Father, I pray you would meet every need and would encourage them through your word and your Holy Spirit. Thank you for the privilege of meeting and working alongside them even for just a few days. May their lives be fruitful and their hearts be secure in you. Amen.
